Anxiety disorders
Research on cognitive-behavioral therapies for
various anxiety disorders has been conducted since
the 60s. The effective treatment programs of today
have largely been developed on the basis of all the
clinical and research experiences that one has
collected during several decades. The research has
steadily been further developed. The knowledge of
today shows that there is a large array of
treatment methods that constitute effective
psychotherapies for various anxiety disorders.
Factors that the majority of the
cognitive-behavioral therapies have in common with
each other is partly similar theoretical working
models and partly several treatment methods that
are commonly applied. The theoretical underpinnings
are usually based on the cognitive theory,
behavioral theory or emotional processing theory.
On the basis of these theories the focus should be
put on cognitive processes or learning processes
that maintain each anxiety disorder. The common
treatment methods include various kinds of exposure
therapies and cognitive therapies. Today's
cbt-methods are especially tailored and adapted to
each and one of the various anxiety disorders.
Through the links and below the link "Anxiety
disorders" at the left there are information about
various symptoms and characteristics of each and
one of the anxiety disorders.
